In Colorado, it seems like every time we get used to a long travel cross country bike, we start wishing for more travel. This was the case with the AS-R 7. Sure, the 575 has plenty of travel but as our skills progressed, we started pushing down trails that months before seemed ridiculous. We wanted more when we were going downhill but were not willing to give up climbing efficiency.
The AS-R 7 project started over three years ago and after a lengthy R&D process, we finally introduced the much talked about bike earlier this year. With a solid seven inches of travel, this bike is a beast on the downhill. But turn the bike up and it climbs exceptionally well, especially when the terrain gets nasty. You will climb things you have never climbed before on this bike. It is truly amazing.
The active suspension is anchored by the carbon dogbone, which firmly connects the stout rear triangle to the oversized main frame. The tapered head tube (15-2-8 standard) gives the bike added strength for the big hits and the unique front derailleur mount eliminates shifting problems sometimes associated with longer travel bikes. The best part? A complete bike can be built up under 30 pounds.

TECH LEVER
Ambidextrous ‘flip flop’ design, CNC machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aircraft spec aluminium alloy - with a split clamp to allow easy set up and choice of positioning.
Redesigned piston, lever and pivot assembly with external ‘on the fly’ reach and bite point adjustment dials. The lever linkage eliminates freeplay in the lever giving a consistent and reliable feel to the brake. Further developments include bearing lever pivots for smooth, rock free use and increased lever ergonomics with a perforated lever for extra grip and feel. Also, a double sided reservoir lid makes for easy bleeding.
The brake is supplied with a choice of either hi tensile polyester reinforced or Goodridge stainless steel braided hose.
X2 CALIPER
This neat, slimline caliper optimises the very latest COSMOSWorks FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software to reduce unnecessary weight, improve aesthetics and create a high performance partnership with the Tech lever.
The caliper is machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aircraft spec aluminium alloy and an increased piston diameter, generating more usable braking force on the rotor. A drip free bleed nipple and wide angle orientation of the fluid inlet connector have also been added, allowing for neater hose routing and cleaner servicing.
Sidi celebrates its golden existence with the new 50th anniversary Ergo 2 Carbon Lite Shoe. It features a soft instep closure system and an adjustable heel retention device. It has a caliper buckle and Tecno-II system. With Carbon Lite sole, the Sidi Ergo 2 Carbon Lite comes in a limited edition.
The anniversary shoe has a white upper with gold highlights. It also has an Italian flag graphic. It is made from Lorica synthetic leather and nylon mesh. The new Ergo 2 has polyester lining and a carbon fiber soleplate. It has a 3-hole cleat compatibility for road cycling and has Sidi’s lifetime warranty.
